This Soldier had a very colourful career! Born St.Helens. Son of Ellen Beddows of Liverpool Street, St.Helens, later of 12 Mount Street St.Helens. He was predeceased by his Father. As of October 1919 his siblings were Thomas Beddows aged 38 and Mary Beddows aged 36 of 16 Ballinger Road, Egremont, Liverpool and Jane Beddows aged 26. Enlisted Southport 11/12/1914. Age at enlistment 27 Years and 183 days. Occupation "labourer", Ht 5ft 5 inches, Wt 130 Pounds and of good physical development. Resided at 93 Boundary Road, Southport. Prior to embarking for France he was constantly on charge for offences such as being AWOL or for threatening to strike an NCO and actually carrying out the threat whilst drunk. On the 08/07/1915 he was placed on the syphilis register having contracted the disease in Whitstable or Canterbury - he was discharged from Hospital 16/08/1915. Sent to France 24/12/1915 from Southamption to LeHarve on the SS Archangel. Attd no 1 Base Depot Rouen 27/12/1915, Joined the Battalion in the Field 15/01/1916. Awarded 28 Days Field Punishment No 1 for being drunk in the billet on 22/05/1916. Killed in action 08/09/1916 - No known grave. Battalion War diary for that date states "Working Parties and Salvage". The previous day they had moved up to support the 9th Kings Liverpool's. From the 2nd to the 11th the 7th Battalion had 9 men killed, 83 Wounded, 5 missing and 2 died of wounds.
