A/Cpl 241061 George E Swift 1/5th Bn, South Lancashire Regiment Gazetted 03/09/1919 'He has shown consistent courage in the face of the enemy. On the night of the 18th/19th June near Festubert, he maintained his Lewis gun in action under hostile artillery and heavy machine gun fire to cover the withdrawal of a raiding party. On the morning of 11th June 1918 near Festubert, the enemy attempted to surprise a post under his command. It was largely due to his boldness and determination that the attack was complete repelled with loss to the enemy.'
