The family are transcribed as 'Linsley' in the 1911 census. 1911 - Sees 14 years old 'Brickyard Labourer' William still living at 24 Essex Street, St Helens with parents John (37), Sarah (34) and two siblings: Henry (8), Sabel (5).

Notes:
The Silver War Badge rolls show that William enlisted on 23rd November 1914 and was discharged on 13th April 1916.

William Tinsley - 5th Reserve Battalion of the South Lancashire Regiment. Attested 23 Nov 1914. (Was a Collier in civilian life) Ht 5ft 5 Inches, Vision and Physical development described as good. His character was described as being - very good. 23.11.14 - 26.06.15 At Home. 27.06.15 - 11.12.15 in France. 12.12.15 - 13.04.16 At Home. Discharged 13.04.1916 after 1 year 143 days service. Medically unfit under Kings Regulations. Quote - he has always had flat feet and this has got gradually worse since he joined the Army, not a result of, but aggravated by active service. [color=#000000]According to 'Records of Deaths at Sea' William Tinsley was working on the Liner Adriatic - a ship commandeered by the Government for War Service in 1917 and 1918. The official number of the Adriatic was 124061. William died of pneumonia,[/color] [color=#000000]17-10-1918, as the ship was entering the Mersey.
