1901 - 11 years old John F is living at 13 Windle Street, St Helens with parents Harry (47), Jane (44) and five siblings: Jane Elizabeth (16), [cas=1627]Frederick Samuel Eyden[/cas] (14), Cosby Isabel (9), [cas=1625]Harry S Eyden[/cas] (8), [cas=1833]James White Eyden[/cas] (6). 1911 Census: The Eyden family lived at Deane Villas on Prescot Road, St Helens. Head of Household Harry, aged 57 and a native of Northamptonshire, had been married for 28 years to Jane, who originated from Stafford. Harry was an Accountant for Coal Tolls. Their children were Grace, 26, and [cas=1627]Frederick Samuel Eyden[/cas] (24), both born in Rugby, John (21), born in Huddersfield, Cicely (19) and [cas=1625]Harry S Eyden[/cas] (18), both born in Newton-le-Willows, and [cas=1833]James White Eyden[/cas], 16, born in St Helens. Frederick and John were both Clerks on the railways while Harry worked as a clerk for BI & HC Ltd in Prescot.

Jack attested for military service on February 19th 1916 in Winnipeg, Canada. He recorded his date of birth as 17th October 1889 and stated that his Occupation was "Paymaster and Cashier". His next of kin was shown as his wife, Mrs J S Eyden, of Laurel Villas, Prescot. No death record has been located for John Eyden in the Great War, and it is suspected that his name was included on the Cenotaph by mistake. A passenger entry for "John F Eyden" shows him as arriving in Liverpool from Montreal on 2nd August 1957 aboard the s.s. "Sylvania" along with Jean S Eyden (presumably his wife), and they recorded their address in the UK as 351, Eaton Road, Liverpool. They stated thatt they intended to remain in the UK for 3 months. John gave his date of birth as 17th October 1889, which confirms that this is the same man as who served with the Canadian Army in the Great War.
