1871 - 9 years old Caleb is boarding at Mile End Old Town Industrial School, London. 1881 - Not found (serving in the East Indies from 1879 to 1887). 1891 - 29 years old Caleb is serving in the Military and is based at Fort Regent, St Helier, Jersey. 1901 - Not found (serving in South Africa from 1899 to 1902). 1911 - Sees 49 years old 'Army Pensioner - Sheet Glass Packer' Caleb living at 73 Devon Street, Newtown, St Helens with wife Eliza Ann (59) and stepson Alfred John Lyodd (22).
Notes:
Awarded the King's and Queen's South Africa Medals for service in the Second Boer War (1899-1902). Discharged on 17 August 1915, being unfit for further military service at home or abroad. SDGW gives Caleb's birthplace as St Helens. Pension card gives his date of death as 28 January 1916; 1 February 1916 was apparently the date of his burial. His step-son [url=http://www.sthelensrollsofhonour.co.uk/casualty-3580-Alfred_John_Lloyd.html]Alfred John Lloyd[/url] also died in The Great War.
