William's parents, Peter Frodsham and Mary A Thomas married at St Mark's, North Rd on 7.1.1890 and four of their nine children, including William, were christened there. The family lived at Moss Bank from 1890 until about 1899. In 1901 they were living at 138 Park St, Haydock and by 1911 at 9 Old Whint Rd, Haydock. In 1911 William was a coal miner's filler. At the time of his enlistment on 7.8.1915 he was a pit timberer, 5' 7 1/2" tall and weighed 150 lbs. There is a certificate from Princess Colliery, Haydock which states that he was a 'Very Good Miner'.
