1891 - 7 years old schoolboy John, parents John (43), Bridget (36) and brother [cas=1928]Patrick Gahan[/cas] (12) are boarding at 85 Parr Street, St Helens with the Ledger family. 1901 - 15(?) year old 'Soldier Infantry' John is listed at Fulwood Barracks, Preston. 1911 - Sees 25(?) year old 'Drummer' John serving with the 2nd Battalion, Loyal North Lancashire Regiment in Ceylon and India. Age on headstone shows that John Gahan was born abt 1882 and would have been abt 19 in 1901 and abt 29 in 1911.

[note=157]Two Gahan Brothers who died in The Great War[/note] Shown on cenotaph as Gahon. Shown as Joseph on CWGC. John Gahan attested Warrington 15 May 1913 resident at 15 Ward Street St Helens. Single and musician by trade. Next of kin elder brother Patrick same address this crossed out and replaced by first cousin James Anders. Seems to have previous - attested Preston 19 Nov 1900 - signed on for 15 years. Reported missing 16 Oct 1914.

Loyal North Lancashire Regiment Gahan 6393 John Private St. Helens, Lancs 31st December 1918 Released Prisoner of war, now died Son of John and Bridget Gahan. Born at St. Helens.
