Before the war, Fred Goodwin was a Detective Constable with the London and North Western Railway Police, based at St Helens Lancs
"DC Goodwin was killed in action aged 33 on 2nd June 1915 whilst serving as Serjeant 5954 in the 2nd Bn South Lancs Reg. He was married to Mary Goodwin and lived in Antonio Street, Bootle, Liverpool. He is buried at Hooge Crater Cemetery in Ypres, Belgium."
