There is no record of a death for H V Greer in either SDGW or CWGC There is a 1911 census entry for 16 year old Herbert Greer living at 7, Back Haydock Street, St Helens with his parents Henry and Jane. A birth is registered in late 1894 in Prescot RD for Herbert Greer. There is no death recorded in the Ancestry death registers for Herbert Greer of an appropriate age. A Medal Index Card for Herbert Victor Greer shows him as Private 12130 with the Royal Welsh Fusiliers. Attesting on 21st August 1914, he was discharged under King's Regulations on 21st February 1919, presumably on the grounds of ill health. It has not been possible to link this man to the entry on the cenotaph or 1911 census. It has not been possible, therefore, to positively identify this casualty.
