War Diary for 27th May 1917:- 27th May 1917 11:00 am to 12:30 pm 2/Lt C HANCOCK and 51 other ranks attached to 223rd Field Coy RE for duty. Our heavy artillery fired 400 rounds on enemy front line and supports. Firing was very effective especially on the ICE LANE and IGUANA AVENUE both of which received direct hits. Wire was cut in many places and left edge of NORTH STATION BUILDINGS. There was no retaliation. Enemy artillery fired on CAMBRIDGE TRENCH at 2:25 pm with 16 4.2 shells. 5 enemy aeroplanes flying low passed over our lines and were fired on by deck, Lewis and Machine guns. 1 OR killed, 1 OR wounded, Patrols again out on our front, but no enemy encountered. 6:35 pm Enemy plane up, brought down by anti-aircraft MG fire, behind enemy lines.
