Private Thomas Richard Jackson was an old boy of Cowley School. A brief testimonial from the Cowley Roll Of Honour:- "Enlisted (when only 16 years of age) in the RAMC in 1914, 87th Field Ambulance, 29th Division. Wounded on the Somme, 1916. Awarded the Military Medal, October 1917 and BAR December 1917. Killed in action 1918, buried in New Military Cemetery, Vlamertynghe." Jackson was a boy soldier who was gallantly awarded the MM on two occasions. He was in from the start and made the ultimate sacrifice - a truely heroic son of the borough.
