James was riding a bicycle in Ilchester, Somerset  when he collided with a lorry and died from his injuries. He was aged 24, married with one child. A John Bebbington of Higher Ince Wigan, Uncle of James Meadows, gave evidence at the inquest, James had enlisted in 1916 before which he was a driver employed at  Wild's Spinning Works. Age taken from the newspaper report.
