1891 - 2 years old Peter, parents John (26), Sarah (24) and siblings Mary (6), Thomas (6 mths) are staying at Miners Cottages, Clipsley Lane, Haydock with grandmother Mary Taylor (68) and relatives Thomas Taylor (19), John Taylor (17). 1901 - 12 years old Peter is living at 22 Haydock Lane, Haydock with parents John (35), Sarah (35) and five siblings: Mary (16), James (8), Thomas (5), John (2), William (11 Mths). 1911 - Sees 22 years old 'Coal Miner - Hewers Filler' Peter still living at 22 Haydock Lane, Haydock with widowed mother Sarah (48) and and seven siblings: James (18), Thomas (14), John (12), William (10), Margaret (8), Annie (6), Robert (1).

'Pte Taylor's number, 30056, suggests that he joined the King's (Liverpool) Regiment around June 1915. He would have been posted to the 4th Battalion, which had landed at Le Havre in March 1915, as part of a reinforcement draft. Pte Taylor went to France on 15th December 1915. He will have initially remained at the Base Depot but is recorded as arriving with the Battalion on 27th December 1915. At that time, the Battalion was based in billets at LOCON. 16/11/1917 MERRIS area Weather fine, marched from billets at 7:30 a.m. to METEREN to embus for POTIJZE area. Debussed on road 1 mile SW of YPRES, marched to camp ay I9A (Sheet 28) via YPRES, arriving at 3:00 p.m. 5 Other Ranks on leave to UK 17/11/1917 Camp Weather fine. Coys engaged on improving Camp. 2nd Lt H BUCHAN to T.M. Battery. I officer rejoins from leave to UK 18/11/1917 Weather fine. Battalion moves to SEINE and becomes Battalion in support on right sub sector. Releif complete 7:00 p.m. 2nd Lt EDBURNS & 4 OR wounded 19/11/1917 Support Line Weather fine. Artillery barrage, 20 minutes duration, on enemy positions. Retaliation in vicinity of SEINE, 1 Officer & 1 NCO reconnoitered front line, right sub sector. Lt C H NEWPORT & 10 OR wounded, 1 OR killed. Work - improvement of line held by Battalion 20/11/1917 Weather fine. Early morning barrage by our artillery, enemy retaliation, heavy rounds, SEINE. Casualties, 10 killed, 15 OR wounded. 2 Officers & 7 OR to Camp School, 1 officer & 6 OR, leave to UK. So it would appear that Pte Taylor was one of the victims of the German shelling.
