1901 - 8 years old David J is living at 5 Crank Road, Billinge with stepfather John Miller (29), remarried mother Martha J Miller (30) and half siblings: Rachel Miller (30, George H Miller (2 Mths). 1911 - Sees 19 years old 'Colliery Hauiler Below Ground' David J boarding at 7 Edge Hall Road, Orrell, Nr Wigan with the Hurst family.

David was born in Billinge the son of David and Martha Jane Kendrick. The family was living at 152 St. James Road, Orrell and David, who worked at the Bispham Hall Colliery, joined the Territorials in 1912. When the war started he enlisted at Preston to join the 3rd Battalion of the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, later transferring to the Cheshire Regiment. David was killed in action in France on Friday the 28th of July 1916. He was 24 years old, and was buried in the Knightsbridge Cemetery, Mesnil-Martinsart, France, grave E.41. His name is recorded on both St. Aidan`s C.E. Church and on St. Luke`s C.E. Church, Orrell Memorials, and also on the Upholland Cenotaph.
