1881 - 4 months old Arthur is living at Tadcaster Road, S Side, Wetherby with parents Graften (31), Mary Eliz. (21) and brother George (1). Also at the address is grandfather George Whincup (63) and Grafton's nephew John Whincup (11). 1891 - 10 years old schoolboy Arthur is living at St Joseph Street, Tadcaster with parents Grafton (44), Mary E (31) and four siblings: George (12), Annie (8), Tom N (6), Edward O (1). Grafton's nephew John W Whincup (20) is still with the family. 1901 - 20 years old 'Farm Servant' Arthur is at his place of work address 17th House in Village, Kirk Deighton, Whetherby, Yorks. He is working for farmer William Parkin (32), M E Parkin (34) and Thomas Freeman (62). 1911 - Sees 30 years old 'Maltster Labourer' Arthur living at 6 Ashworth Street, Aspull with wife of 1 year Elizabeth (26) and son Walter Grafton (3 mths).

Arthur was born in Bramham, Yorkshire the son of Grafton and Mary Elizabeth Whincup. He lived with his wife Elizabeth at 202 Upholland Road, Orrell, and enlisted at Wigan to join the Royal Field Artillery. Arthur was killed in action on Tuesday the 25th of September 1917 in France/Flanders, and was buried in the Canada Farm Cemetery, Elverdinghe, Belgium, grave III.C.45. He was 36 years of age. His name is recorded on both St. Aidan`s C.E. Church and St. Luke`s C.E. Church Memorials, and on the Upholland Cenotaph.
