17383 Pte Thomas Hewitt attested 31Oct 1914 at Bolton. He was born St Helens, aged 37 a married collier.Next of kin : Wife Mary Hewitt 52 Hardy Street, Bolton.He was posted to the 6th Bn 24 Oct 1915 arrriving in Port Said  13 Feb 1916 and transferred to Mesoptania  arriving Basra 6 Mar 1916.  He suffered gun shot wounds to both legs  5 Apr 1916 and invalided to  India on H.S Takeda  9 Apr 1916. He was admitted Colaba Hospital Bombay 16 Apr 1916. He was transferred to Egypt 2 days later. He was then invalided to England 19 June 1916 and was admitted to Bury Military Hospital.He was discharged  as being unfit for military servive 11 Aug 1917 . His wife received a War Gratuity 22 Sept 1919
