[b]Widnes Weekly News Friday June 11th 1943 - SOLDIER'S SACRIFICE - Killed in North Africa[/b] Mrs. Edith Hunter, of 31 Castle Street, Halton View, Widnes, has been notified by the War Office that her husband, Private Alfred Hunter, of the Loyal regiment, was killed in action in North Africa on the 23rd April last. Twenty-six year years of age, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Hunter, 119 Hall Street, Saint Helens, and was educated at St. Helens Parish Church Schools. He was a bricklayer by trade and came to Widnes seven years ago to on a housing estate in Halton View, afterwards being engaged on the Lowerhouse lane estate with the Leyland Construction Co. And Mr. W.H. Tallon. He joined the Forces 18 months ago and was drafted out last February. In October,1939, he married Miss Edith Oldham, of Halton View.
