Father Joseph Edward Jones born 21/10/1896 a Coal Mine Contractor Below, mother Sarah Jones born 02/01/1900 an Unpaid Domestic and brother Joseph Edward Jones born 29/08/1921 an Apprentice Iron Moulder are living at 89 Irwin Road, Sutton, St Helens.

Sunk by a glider bomb from a German Do.217 aircraft off Kos, Dodecanese , Greece. The glider bomb struck HMS Dulverton (Cdr. [i]Stuart Austen[/i] Buss, MVO, DSC, RN) abreast the bridge, inflicting serious damage and starting extensive fires. The destroyer sustained heavy casualties, but her consorts took off six officers and 114 ratings before she was scuttled two hours later by HMS Belvoir. Three officers, including her Captain, of the 5th Destroyer Flotilla, and 75 ratings were lost with HMS Dulverton. [b]Battle Honours;[/b] Libya 1942 Sirte 1942 Mediterranean 1942 Malta Convoys 1942 Sicily 1943 Salerno 1943 Aegean 1943 The Official record stated:- 'November Deployment in defence of Leros in continuation. 13th In action with Do217 aircraft off Leros and hit by Hs293 Glider Bomb. Forward structure demolished. 109 of ships' company rescued by HMS BELVOIR. When recovery of ship was clearly impracticable ship was scuttled (Note: 77 of the ship's company were lost including her captain.'
