HMS Medina was in fact a shore base for landing craft and a Fleet Air Arm camp.
The base was commissioned on 15/11/39 and paid off on 31/7/42. It was located at Puckpool, Ryde, Isle of Wight.
Official naval records state that Thomas Bate "Died" on the 4th of June 1940.
