429 Squadron Royal Canadian Airforce was formed in 4 Air Group on 07/11/1942, becoming fully operational on 24/01/1943. Initially flying out of RAF East Moor, North Yorkshire the squadron transfered to RAF Leeming on 12/08/1943 to upgrade from 2 Engine Wellington Bombers to the Heavy 4 Engine, Handley Page Halifax. The Squadron suffered a total of 395 casualties during WW2 having lost 71 Aircraft on operational missions and 11 from non-operational duties. The Squadron had the nickname "Bison" Sergeant (Flight Engineer) Peter Vose transfered to the squadron on the 15/04/1944. Peter lost his life on the 23/05/1944 whilst engaged on a mission over Le Mans France. His Halifax Bomber(registration LV989)was lost along with all 7 Crew; the official records stating "Aircrash".
