The 62nd Anti-Tank Regiment was landed on Juno Beach during the D Day assault. The Regiment was part of 1st Corps and was attached to the Canadian 3rd Division. It consisted of 245 & 248 Batteries with M10 Self Propelled 17 Pounder Ant- Tank Guns and 246 & 247 Batteries which were equiped with 17 Pounder "towed" guns. "On the morning of D-Day plus 2, at 09:45hrs a force of nine enermy tanks appeared supported by infantry. They had crossed the railway line west of Putot and now at a distance of 1200 yards, they commenced plastering the woods with machine gun and mortar fire. Two of the seventeen pounders and two six pounders soon had them in their sights and opened fire. In the ensuring fight four enermy tanks were destroyed but the defenders also suffered heavy losses".
